Indi Conover — Oakdale, MN,  is a behavioral neuroscientist who works with primates. Ms. Conover contributed to two new publications in the multidisciplinary science journal Nature that explore natural behavioral repertoires in Rhesus Macaques associated with specific patterns of hierarchical neuronal firing in the Prefrontal Cortex. She plans to step away from the lab to attend a doctorate program in neuroscience this fall.

Anesce Dremen — New York City, NY,  spent her first year out of college in New York City. Anesce submitted 250 job application in hopes of landing a job, but spent the year volunteering and interning instead. Anesce was a Workaway volunteer laying bricks at a Buddhist monastary in upstate New York and prepared AirBNB rooms for hippies in New Jersey. As a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Alumni Ambassador, she co-organized a successful networking event at the United Nations headquarters in which 50 CLS alumni attended a private tour of Arabic or Chinese translation services before attending a career panel. Currently, she volunteers as a board member for the Critical Language Scholarship Alumni Society. To other alumni still searching for a job, she wishes to impart: Don't give up! Use each rejection to fuel your next application. Take note of what interview questions were asked, what you did well, and what you can improve upon. Who knows where that will lead you next.

NBC Sports aired a feature about the event. A graduate assistant in Carthage’s athletic training program, Mr. Molinaro continues to train with an eye toward the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Hailey Habenicht — Frankfort, IL,  is engaged to Michael Duffy. Michael proposed to Hailey while they were having a "tourist day" in Chicago. Since Michael is from Arizona, he had never seen waves as big as they were in Lake Michigan on September 8, 2018. Michael used this reasoning to bring Hailey over by the water and asked her to marry him on the coast of Lake Michigan. They are tying the knot on March 21, 2020 in Grand Canyon, Arizona.

Ashlynn Rickord — Oak Forest, Illinois,  was awarded the Harvard Divinity School's Dean's Summer Internship Award for the summer of 2016. This $5,000 award will fund Ashlynn's summer internship with the city of Waltham, Massachusetts, and the Waltham Historical Commission. Ashlynn's work will encompass historical research and documentation of the defunct Fernald Developmental Center, the oldest institution in the Western Hemisphere for the treatment of the developmentally disabled. Ashlynn is a Master of Theological Studies candidate at Harvard's Divinity School, residing in Melrose, Massachusetts.

Steve Hobe — Hickory Hills, Illinois,  made his international debut in Santarcangelo di Romagna, performing the role of Mustafa in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. He also performed the role of Simone in Gianni Schicchi in Rimini, Italy. Carthage audiences may remember Steve’s performance of this role at Carthage as part of our Opera Workshop productions. In September, Steve headed off to New York University to complete a master’s degree in vocal performance.

Kaila Banaszak — Jackson, Wisconsin,  earned the position as solo violinist for “Passing By,” a musical by Patrick Thompson that is set in a small, rural Wisconsin town. The musical opened at the Chicago Music Theatre Festival and the New York Music Theatre Festival last July. In addition to performing in this new music theatre work, Kaila is serving as the interim executive director at the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra (KSO). Kaila has been coordinating summer outreach and education activities for the orchestra, and is working with the orchestra’s conductor, Robert Hasty, to plan the upcoming season which will feature a performance with the Carthage Choir.

Nicole Devine — Elk Grove Village, IL,  finished her first Ironman with a time of 14'09"02 on September 12, 2021. She is very proud of this accomplishment and would like to thank all of her friends and family for their support. KelliAnn Elizabeth (Anderson) Rubrecht — Cumberland, Wisconsin,  has moved to the western suburbs of Chicago for a new job as an operator at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. She works in the main control room, as one of the employees who oversee the whole accelerator complex, tune up the machines, and do troubleshooting and maintenance when things break — something she says happens "frequently." Ms. Rubrecht writes that she "never would have got this amazing job if I hadn't gone to Carthage." She adds that she's not the first Physics Department graduate to work at Fermilab, "and I think that really speaks volumes about the quality of Carthage's physics program."

Earl Zimmerman — Wausau, Wis.,  Jan. 14, 2013. Born July 20, 1930, in Dearborn County, Ind., Earl Zimmerman devoted his life to the church. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, on June 1, 1953, and with a bachelor of divinity degree from the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary, also in Columbus, on June 2, 1957. He interned at Peace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, Wis., where he met his wife, Dolores. He and Delores L. Plotz were married at the church on June 15, 1957. His first parish was Faith Lutheran Church in Cuba City, Wis., from 1957 to 1959. On Oct. 25, 1959, he was installed at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Rothschild, Wis., where he helped the congregation grow from approximately 100 baptized members to more than 1,500. In his 35 years of ministry, he officiated at 893 baptisms, 1,191 confirmations, 409 marriages, and 190 funerals. He also had numerous synod capacities, including serving on Carthage’s Board of Trustees from 1983 to 1988. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughters Deborah Shuda of Stevens Point, Wis., and Sheila Smoke of Black River Falls, Wis.; sons David of Woodbury, Minn.; Daniel of Loyal, Wis.; and Dean of De Pere, Wis.; foster sons Lee Reeds of Wausau, Wis.; and Dell Reeds of Rockford, Ill.; sister, Evelyn Beneker of Brookville, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters Laura Mang, Anne Sweeney, Mable Beneker, and Eileen; and brothers Carl, Ralph, and Edward.

Lauren earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and theater with a secondary education minor from Carthage and earned a master's degree in education administration from Grand Canyon University. Scanlan teaches third grade at Winnebago Elementary School in Glendale Heights in Marquardt Elementary District 15, and currently serves as principal of the district's summer school program for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. A committed volunteer, Scanlan has been very active with two youth leadership organizations for the past eight years, helping students build leadership skills and complete community service. Scanlan lives in Carol Stream with her husband, Eric, and son, Russell. Scanlan will serve on the District 94 school board until April 2019, when the remaining two years of the term (until April 2021) will be filled via election.

Zawadi (Mageni) Mageni-Mboma — Tanzania,  won a $100,000 grant through one of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's funding initiatives to improve access to medical supplies in her home country. A research scientist with Ifakara Health Institute, she was awarded a Grand Challenges Explorations grant in November. IHI colleague and fellow Carthage graduate Samson Kiware '07 is among the co-investigators on the project. While crumbling roads impede deliveries to remote community health centers in Tanzania, Ms. Mageni-Mboma noticed that shopkeepers replenish their kiosks regularly. Under the 18-month grant, the team of five will train some of those shopkeepers to safely transport medicine and other critical supplies. To cap off a memorable month, Ms. Mageni-Mboma got married Nov. 25, with several other alumni attending.

Ten years after starting in the Master of Education program at Carthage, Janice was nominated by the Parent-Teacher-Student-Association at Jerstad-Agerholm Middle School in Racine, Wisconsin, where she works as a special education inclusion teacher. The award honors teachers who are actively involved with students and families in their schools and recognizes excellence in teaching effectiveness, as well as involvement in PTA and community and professional organizations. Nominators wrote that "students Ms. Kosinski works with may have learning or emotional disabilities and she has gone above and beyond to understand their specific needs to create a personalized plan for the students to be successful. As an inclusion teacher, Ms. Kosinski has made a huge impact.”

Rachel Page — Chicago, IL,  is working internationally in Barcelona, Spain, on a second workshop of the original musical, Survivor Story: A Workshop, composed and co-written by Rachel and her creative partner, Lindsay Bartlette Allen. After two successful readings and a fully staged workshop production in Chicago in August 2017, Rachel has been living Barcelona, Spain to assuage her travel bug and remotely work on Survivor Story re-writes in the sunshine. There, she has teamed up with the esteemed Professor Viv Manning, an Estill Certified Course Instructor and head of the Music Theatre department at Eolia, Escola Superior d'Art Dramátic. Rachel will be working with seven very talented Catalan students on scenes and songs from the musical, culminating in a series of performances in March. After Rachel's workshop ends in March, Rachel and Lindsay will once again hit the ground running with another round of rewrites and tours as they work from both Chicago and Los Angeles on the growth of this piece. Survivor Story is a new musical based on the lives of two real-life Chicago women who survived sexual assault, one of whom is co-writer and creator Lindsay herself. In the show, although these women never meet they share the same fears and face the same trials as they deal with the aftermath of their own experiences.

Dan DeBoeuf — Ingleside, IL,  has been hired as the head football coach at Prospect High School. For the last three years, DeBoeuf has served as head coach of Johnsburg football in Class 4A. Before taking over as head coach at Johnsburg, DeBoeuf served two seasons as offensive coordinator, as well as strength and conditioning coach at Round Lake. He also served as an assistant boys track and field coach at Joliet Township High School from 2012-13 and assistant football coach from 2011-13. He was also assistant girls basketball coach at Joliet during the 2011-12 season. While at Carthage, he played quarterback and later defensive back from 2006-09. He was named CCIW Offensive Player of the Week in 2007 as quarterback after completing 30-of-42 passes for 316 yards.

Carly Crittendon — Kenosha, Wis., was named the best high school teacher in a Kenosha News poll. She loves working at Bradford High School because of its diverse student population and culturally responsive education.
