Type of research: Senior thesis

Abstract

This study will review the literature on the understudied topic of crime's impact on the economy in order to assess whether or not crime plays a role in affecting economic factors. Moreover, this study will provide a novel analytical framework for reviewing and interpreting research to identify some noteworthy factors influencing the potential bidirectional relationship between crime and the economy. Ultimately, this literature review found that selected studies had similar conclusions and details about the crime/economy link. The results of this review indicated that not only did crime play a role in impacting the economy, but also set the framework for a future larger analysis. This review will make a contribution to the sparse literature on crime's impact on the economy.
