Abstract

The Mayans were arguably one of the most intelligent and influential civilizations in America. They were highly developed with extraordinary advances in the arts and sciences. The forces and reasons for the downfall of this magnificent empire have been debated throughout the centuries. Despite intermarriage that has taken place among some Mayans within the Yucatán peninsula, many full-blooded Mayan people still exist today. Unfortunately, those who remain are no longer a strong and proud people. As a result of several factors, namely discrimination, they suffer from poverty and its associated diseases. My research will search for solutions that can improve the current Mayan condition. The aim of the research is to answer the following question: will there be a remnant of true Mayans that can once again rise to become a prosperous people with a respected voice?
