Abstract

It is the goal of my project to create an effective chapter for an intermediate level Spanish textbook utilizing the overall theme of politics and an introduction to the formal elements of the subjunctive verb tense. This topic in particular is significant for educators and students alike because both parties are always looking for a “better textbook” in terms of the content and how it is presented to be engaging and relevant for effective instruction. In order to create an authentic chapter, I was provided with existing textbooks of varying levels by my professor as references and analyzed the content and format of each one before beginning my own work. Furthermore, the process and thinking behind the creation of this chapter provides some insight into how formatting can effect students’ reception of the material and the teacher’s ability to effectively customize the activities provided in order to make the textbook an effective supplement to instruction. I plan to present the completed chapter alongside a brief synopsis of the processes involved in researching and then creating an intermediate level textbook chapter for Spanish instruction.
