Abstract

The issue addressed in this project was how to better manage a multigenerational workforce, an increasingly important issue in Human Resources management. Many workplaces have a diverse range of ages, with employees spanning four generations. Generational differences have posed as a source of conflict and can affect productivity, engagement and satisfaction levels among employees. The challenges are often discussed, but a comprehensive solution has not been found.

There are several different strategies that organizations can implement in order to attain a successful multigenerational workforce and utilize the different strengths of each generation. The methods used to investigate this topic involved research of management and human resources databases which included training magazines, publications and case studies. Through exploration of this topic, I determined several possible solutions that can be applied by addressing generational preferences in regards to training, development, work environment, rewards and communication. Mentoring is one of the most impactful solutions, as it fosters communication and knowledge transfer between younger and older generations while building relationships.
