Abstract

In 2009, Kamath, Meier and Thomas published Characteristics of Accounting Faculty in the U.S.  Their study examined key characteristics of accounting faculty at institutions across the United States based upon a random sample of 850 accounting faculty listed in the 2004-2005 Accounting Faculty Directory edited by Hasselback (2004).   Three of the characteristics, academic rank, highest degree earned and year professor earned highest degree, were analyzed by gender.

Using Hasselback’s 2012-2013 Accounting Faculty Directory, a sample of faculty members will be used to analyze these three characteristics, as well as two other characteristics, professional certifications and professors also named professors or administrators, by gender.  The latter two characteristics were not analyzed by gender by Kamath, Meier and Thomas (2009).  The current study is designed to determine if women have made progress in gender equity in accounting academia.
