Abstract
It is unethical that businesses are permitted to Photoshop and
airbrush models to look unnaturally thin. There have been many studies around
the world that show the impact that thin-ideal media has on people, especially
women and young girls. These advertisements make women believe that they need
to be just as thin as the models. When the goal is not met, problems arise.
Marketing needs to change their advertising tactics to improve women’s body
image and prevent various psychological disorders. Possible alternatives to
solve this rising issue include; using social media campaigns to combat negative
hashtags or posts, give businesses the opportunity to self-regulate themselves,
or establish laws that regulate advertisements. One of the most difficult
problems related to this issue is the amount of media people are exposed to
everyday.
