Abstract

The edTPA Physical Education Resource website, is a site designed and maintained by the Exercise and Sport Science Department at Carthage College.  This creative work is a project led by Rebekah Johnson, Assistant Professor in Exercise and Sport Science and supported by majors in the graduating class of 2018.  Majors include Nicholas Brummitt (senior editor), David Fish, Ashley Johnson, and Matthew Swanson.  The site was created to provide resources to support teacher candidates as they perform the edTPA (Teacher Performance Assessment) in the unique discipline of physical education.  The goals of the site are to: assist students in understanding the edTPA requirements, support students in applying components of edTPA to the unique discipline of physical education, and provide a service to current and future students at Carthage College and other institutions.

The website contains a variety of components to support teacher candidates. When searching for support regarding edTPA, physical education resources are few and far between. This resource website houses many of the relevant website links, articles, and exemplars related to physical education. A lesson plan template was designed to assist teacher candidates to plan with the “scorer in mind.” Also, user-friendly checklists were created by the website editors to guide teacher candidates through each task in edTPA.

Authors of the website presented a session for teacher candidates at the Wisconsin Health and Physical Education (WHPE) Convention in October, 2017 to a room full of students from six other state and private institutions. An article sharing the website was also published in the WHPE Winter 2018 Newsletter. It will also be featured nationally in a webinar led by Rebekah Johnson in the summer of 2018 through SHAPE America, Society of Health and Physical educators.
