Abstract

The Effects of Plant Protein and Whey Protein on Athletes

Tommy Green

Abstract

Protein is a supplement taken by athletes in order to build muscle mass after muscle breakdown. This inquiry researches proper protein intake and the differences in types of proteins and their effects on the body.  Several case studies demonstrated both the effects of protein supplementation on athletes and how specific protein supplements affect athletes. While protein supplements are designed with the same purpose, studies have shown that Whey proteins typically have a higher protein content, and more unnecessary ingredients, such as sugars and artificial flavors, than plant-based proteins. However, there is no significant difference in amount of muscle mass gain in athletes who use either type of protein.
