Abstract

The assignment: Run an election campaign for the next President of the United States of America.  Our organization had seen its clients struggling with the financial issues faced by many Americans and we believe that our years of experience in management accounting gave us the big picture perspective needed to provide practical solutions to these issues. Like in every election, our team had to develop our candidate’s proposed solutions to address current issues as part of the candidate selection process.

As part of the nationwide competition sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), we took this assignment and submitted an executive summary of our plan to solve social security and the national deficit. In only Carthage’s second year taking part in the competition, we made our way to the semifinals where we stood with the Top 16 teams out of almost 140. At this level, we submitted a video that was up for public votes. While we did not make the top 3 teams, we did receive over 1000 votes on our video from the Carthage Community.
